Getting Around Queenstown

Queenstown offers various transportation options to help you navigate the town and reach our Winter Pride events.

Walking

Queenstown is a relatively compact town, and many venues and attractions are within walking distance of each other. Enjoy the scenic beauty and crisp mountain air as you stroll around.

Public Buses

Queenstown has a reliable public bus system called Orbus, servicing various routes throughout the town and surrounding areas. Check their website or app for schedules, routes, and fares. Consider purchasing a GoCard for discounted travel.

Taxis and Rideshares

Taxis and rideshare services like Uber and Ola are readily available in Queenstown. These can be a convenient option, especially for late-night travel or reaching destinations further afield.

Do you operate coat check at events? Is there a charge?

Yes! Winter Pride runs a Coat Check at most events where it would be convenient for guests to store their additional clothing or bags – namely, parties and shows. Coat Check is a free service, included in the price of your pass or tickets. However, we always welcome donations to support our charity partners.

How else can I support local charities while at Winter Pride?

Throughout the festival there will be opportunities to donate to charities, such as the local rainbow youth support group “The Spectrum Club” or QTopia, the islands largest rainbow charity. You can do this directly through fundraisers at specific events such as the Charity Ski Race or at fundraisers at night time events. Allies: Playing Your Part

We deeply appreciate the support of our allies and recognize the vital role you play in creating a truly inclusive Winter Pride experience. Here are some ways you can contribute to a positive and welcoming environment:

Active Allyship

  • Listen and Learn: Be open to hearing and learning from LGBTQ+ individuals about their experiences and perspectives. Create space for their voices to be heard and amplified.
  • Educate Yourself: Take the initiative to learn about LGBTQ+ history, terminology, and current issues. This will equip you to be a more informed and effective ally.
  • Challenge Prejudice: Speak up against homophobic, biphobic, and transphobic remarks or behaviors, even when it’s uncomfortable. Silence can be interpreted as complicity.
  • Respect Identities and Pronouns: Use people’s correct names and pronouns. If you’re unsure, politely ask. Respecting someone’s identity is fundamental to allyship.
  • Support LGBTQ+ Organizations and Businesses: Patronize LGBTQ+-owned businesses and support organizations working to advance LGBTQ+ rights and equality.
  • Amplify LGBTQ+ Voices: Share LGBTQ+ content and stories on social media and in your personal networks. Help raise awareness and visibility.
  • Be Mindful of Space: Recognize that Winter Pride is primarily a celebration for the LGBTQ+ community. Be mindful of taking up space and centering yourself in conversations.
  • Don’t Assume: Avoid making assumptions about someone’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Let people self-identify on their own terms.
  • Be Open to Feedback: Be receptive to feedback from LGBTQ+ individuals about your allyship. It’s a continuous learning process.
Reporting Discrimination or Harassment

If you experience or witness any form of discrimination or harassment, please report it immediately to event staff or security personnel. You can also contact us through our website or by phone. We take all reports seriously and will investigate them promptly.
